Wait patiently for the Lord

Sometimes, I am not a very patient person.  Ok you got me there, most of the time.  Today, we expect everything at lightning speed! So it’s very easy to start expecting God to work the same way.  We expect if we pray in the morning to have an answer by lunch or sooner.  Then if don’t get the answer that quick, we think God isn't listening because it’s taking so long.  God wants us to believe He will answer and wait with patient endurance for that answer. Trusting in God to answer is a challenge even when things are going well. How much harder it is to feel confident in an answer when you’re in trouble, exhausted, and in the dark waiting.

In Psalm 27 we learn that for David life had its ups and downs. The ups were the good times, but these downs are difficult. He begins to wonder, why was God not so good to him now?  So he offers a three part prayer.  In verse 1-3 he makes a proclamation of what he believes God will do. He believes God is going to help him.  Then he proceeds in verses 4-9 to ask for the opportunity to worship God as he did in the good times. When life is difficult we must remember the good times. When we think that God has forgotten us, we must remember the times when we felt His presence.  In verses 10-13, David asks God to teach him how to live.  What he is asking for God to do is show him how to trust God and wait for an answer.  That’s why he reminds himself, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

What are you waiting for? Do you believe He will answer? Are you willing to wait for God's timing and answer, or do you expect Him to deliver answers and solutions right now? Do you need to remind yourself today, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”  You been here before and God has took care of you, He will again.

This is my Prayer:  Jesus I believe you are my life and my salvation.  God I ask that you help me to worship, celebrate, and praise you more in the hard times, than I do in the good.  Remind me Lord that Your presence never leaves me.  Lord, you are big enough to handle everything in my life right now, because You have handled it all up till now. Teach me to live while I wait to hear Your answer. In Jesus name, Amen.

Ok, Ollie wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, Ollie wait patiently for the Lord.

God did an extraordinary thing for worthless people!

"I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me" Proverbs 8:17 NIV.

God wants to lead us every day into His love, but it’s hard to focus on God’s will for your life when you believe that no matter what you do it won’t matter. We all have to admit that there are things about our own lives that we don’t like, and that make us at time not like ourselves all that much either. The evil one wants us to think that we are worthless, no good trash. He will use the meanness and cruelty of others, and our own weaknesses and failures, to make us hate ourselves. This hatred drives us away from God being our main focus.

Here’s why we need God so much. He did an extraordinary thing for worthless people. “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8. You see in God’s eye there are not worthless people. The Lord Jesus Christ thinks you are so valuable that he was willing to die for you. He didn’t wait for you to clean yourself up first. He died so you would know His love. So today, cast your worries, self doubt, and self hatred on Him, He will not fail you!

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:6 NIV God's timing is perfect allow God to guide your day letting Him work out the details so that your focus is on His love.

This is my Prayer: Jesus allow me to see myself through Your eyes. Lord give me the strength to trust You and focus on Your love. Help me to see my value in Your plan. God teach me care about You as much as You care about me. Show me how to cast my worries, self doubt, and self hatred on You and know that You’re work out everything out. Help me focus on Your love today and seek You. In Jesus name, Amen.

Obedience and Guilt

If you were honest with yourself, would you say that you are strong-willed and stubborn? If you have ever parented a strong and stubborn child, you know frustrations that can arise from it. When God looks at you, does he see His child in this way?

Obedience is not an easy way to live. When we are obedient we must give up power and control to someone else and follow their will rather than our own. Obedience involves trust, and surrender. The problem for many of us is it’s really hard to trust and obey God when you feel guilty in his presence. You might be thinking, “Okay, I know Jesus died for me, but I still feel like such a fool. I don’t feel worthy of his love.” Is this where you are today? The Bible tells us that confession is a necessary part of healing the damage of guilt: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” John 1:9.

Confession is God’s way of purging the poisons out of our system.  It cuts through all the pretending, denial, and defense.  We have to get rid of the guilt, in order to be obedient.  We need to understand what Jesus has done for us. He has forgiven our sins, every one of them.  Confessing our sins, saying them out loud to our God without blaming others and without pretending, placing them in God’s forgiving hands can free us from that burden of guilt. Our minds can know forgiveness and our hearts can feel forgiven.  We need to remember that Jesus Christ was the only person in our world that was completely obedient to God. "Though he was God's Son, he learned trusting-obedience by what he suffered, just as we do." Hebrews 5:8  Trusting God and being obedient to His will move us into His glorious presence where we can feel safe surrendering our lives to Him.

This is my Prayer:  Jesus I’ve heard the gospel message and know that I have been forgiven, but I don’t feel forgiven. I still feel dirty; I still feel like I am a disappointment to You.  Lord I need your strength to lay my confession down, to lay my burden of guilt into Your forgiving hands.  Holy Spirit I truly trust you to guide me into a life of obedience.  God give me the faith necessary to submit to You in every way. In Jesus name, Amen.

God has got this!

Have you been burned lately?  Someone promised to do something for you and then it never happened?  Satan wants us to believe that we can’t trust God. Adam and Eve were the first to fall victim to this lie. God promises good to those who love him, yet we suffer abuse. We struggle day after day to pay our bills, and we can’t find work that pays well. Our families struggle with drugs and alcoholism. We are always facing one trial or another. We are afraid what will happen to us next.  We live most of our lives in fear.  Fear holds us back from trusting and believing God’s promises.  Fear makes us blind to the blessings we have, and makes it difficult to believe that there will be good things to come.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10

God’s Old Testament people had a lot they could worry about. Their armies were being battered, their cities looted, and their cattle stolen. People were being captured and enslaved. Their nation was being nibbled away, leaving only a smaller and smaller core of what was once a mighty empire.  Isaiah had some wonderful words to tell them. They could trust and believe in a God who was not going to let them lose their true treasure. In fact, God would actually be using the hard things in their lives to help them! He said “Fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”  He was their God and they were to understand He was in control.  What are you afraid of right now? Do you feel abandoned? Have you prayed for help? When you find yourself afraid, you need listen to the words of God, and remember that He is your God and He’s got this.

This is my Prayer: Lord forgive me for not trusting you in all times. Help me to abandon my fear and trust in You. Jesus give me the strength to come to You, the strength to endure this world and live for You.  God help me believe Your word, trust Your word, and live Your word. In Jesus name.

Who is setting the rhythm of your life?

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Matthew 11:28-30, Message

This scripture offers an invitation to let God set the pace of our lives.  Although, He spoke these words to a generation of weary souls two thousand ago, I don’t think there could be a more fitting description for today’s generation. Tired, worn out, burn out, seems like a tailor-made fit to me.  Jesus offers to recover your life, real rest, unforced, free and light living, but it is only if you “Come to Me”.  A life of unhindered fellowship with Jesus is the rhythms of grace.  Rhythms of grace are God’s divine tempo for your life. It’s not about what we do or don’t do. It’s about Who is setting our tempo.

Think for a moment about rhythm and our most basic response to it: movement. I have a playlist on my phone that I listen to when I’m working out. There are different types of songs for different moments in my workout. Some are fast for those moments when I need to get going and some are slow for the cool down time. The rhythm of the music sets my workout pace, but when it comes to the pace of my life, who is setting the rhythm? Like the music on my phone it depends on who I’m listening to.

People have different responses when it comes to dealing with the stresses of life. Some people try to outrun the stress. Some people feel so helpless they just stop moving altogether. Others ignore problems hoping they will somehow go away. I understand each of those reactions — and I have experienced them plenty of times! Somewhere between running away and the full stop, there is a pace — a rhythm that’s a custom fit for your life right now. That pace is God’s rhythm of grace for your life, His perfect tempo.  Today, if you're tired, worn out or burned out—help available, Jesus is waiting! Keep company with Jesus and trust Him to set the tempo.

This is my Prayer:  Jesus help me tune into Your voice above all others. Teach me to move to Your rhythm and at Your pace.  Lord You have laid out for me a life and away to live it, and it’s the life I want. I trust You God to direct my tempo.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
