The best thing I can do is be obedient to speaking and pouring the truth into their lives and then pray.

Do you ever find yourself wanting to “fix” or change someone? Why do we all think we can do that?  Do we think we have the some special power or some master knowledge needed to change a person to be what we want them to be?  We are a very misled group, aren't we?  We think that if we say or do the right things that maybe someone will come to their senses and change.  I have found myself falling into that trap so many times.  As I think back on those times, I remember the feeling of despair I felt and anger when I didn’t see the fruit of my labor or the outcome I desired.  I was focusing on my desires, abilities and actions, and not on God’s.

I had to come to an understanding that I am no match for the power of God.  I whole heartedly believe in speaking and pouring the truth in someone's life.  I believe God put people in our lives for that purpose and that the Holy Spirit prompts us to those people He has put in our path.  But even if I do that it still doesn't guarantee that they will change. I have to remember that it’s not up to me, only God can change that person.  The best thing I can do is be obedient to speaking and pouring the truth into their lives and then pray. “Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, “Why couldn’t we cast out that evil spirit?” Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.” Mark 9:28-29

Recently I was reminded this in my church’s Sunday evening Bible study, when God put some people on my heart to pray for that I had given up on.  I had shared the gospel and poured in to this person’s life years ago only to not see my desired outcome.  So for years, I hadn’t been praying for them.  So I asked God what He would have me pray and He showed me.  This person’s heart seem to be a little on the hard side.  They thought they had it all together and there was nothing wrong with their life or life style. So I prayed for brokenness, for them to see a need for God, and for them to develop a hatred for their sin.  I prayed that God would forgive them and give them a new heart and a new spirit. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

I give praises to God, because I've seen amazing results in that person’s life.  But quite frankly, I should be praising Him all the time. Because I know that even if I never see my desired transformation in people lives, I know He will see His.

This is my Prayer:  God show me the areas of my life where I am trying to take over Your job.  Jesus show me how to love people where they are and how to pray them to where You want them to be. Lord help me to be obedient to speak and pour truth into their lives and then pray for Your desired outcome.  God teach me to praise for the transformation You are providing in our lives.  In Jesus name, Amen.
